Project Loveboat
In order to welcome Bruce S. Brunschwig to Caltech as the Director of the Molecular Materials Resource Center, we decided to give him an office upgrade. Coming from New York, we wanted him to be able to enjoy the beautiful Southern California Weather, rather than sitting in some stuffy office. Plus, California is known for its beaches, so we wanted to incorporate a beach-like atmosphere. So, we settled on the best location for his office to be in the Gene Pool. After much calculation and planning, rafts were built out of two liter soda bottles. We then cleared out his office (completely) and relocated it to the gene pool. Bruce seemed to enjoy the prank and even climbed in to answer the ringing phone on his desk!
